Hi, I’m Jack

I’m a carpenter and woodworker based in Blewett, just outside Nelson, BC. I build custom cabinetry, built-ins, furniture and finish carpentry for homes throughout Nelson and the surrounding Kootenays.

My path into carpentry began with green woodworking and traditional hand tools. Carving spoons and working with freshly cut timber taught me to pay close attention to the grain, understand how wood moves and appreciate the details that make something feel well made.

After moving from Bristol, England, to the Kootenays, I spent more than six years building tiny homes. Working across every stage of a build, from framing through to cabinetry and interior finishing, gave me a broad range of practical skills. It also taught me how to make thoughtful use of small, unusual and often overlooked spaces.

Now I’m bringing that experience into Jack of All Grains full time. I particularly enjoy creating cabinetry and built-in furniture that solves a real problem, whether that means adding storage to an awkward corner, creating a wall of shelving or building a piece that fits a room properly. Whenever possible, I make the components in my Blewett workshop before installing them in the client’s home. This allows me to focus carefully on the details while helping make installation more efficient and less disruptive.

Jack of All Grains is a small, hands-on business. When you hire me, you work directly with the person measuring, planning, building and installing your project. I value clear communication, practical solutions and work that feels at home in the space where it belongs.

Green woodworking remains part of the business, too. I continue to offer a limited number of carving classes because I enjoy sharing the slower, hands-on side of woodworking that first drew me to the craft.
